Family Law

Feldesman Tucker is widely recognized as one of the Washington region's premier firms in the area of family law. Our practice covers family law cases in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Our Family Law Group is headed by partners whose expertise is well known both in the Washington metropolitan area and nationally.

Our attorneys are experienced in the most complex litigation and negotiation, often on behalf of clients having substantial assets which are difficult to disentangle. Most of our clients, however, are people of ordinary means passing through the crisis of family dissolution. We resolve their divorce and related problems of child custody, child support, alimony and property distribution. Our attorneys also frequently work with non-traditional families to resolve their similarly complex matters.

Although our attorneys are prepared to pursue court proceedings when necessary to serve our clients' interests, the vast majority of our cases are resolved by negotiating and signing a separation and property settlement agreement, often using the Collaborative Law process or other alternate dispute resolution methods. Tax aspects of family dissolution, bankruptcy and pensions are among the areas of the Family Law Group's expertise, as are the special circumstances of military personnel and employees of Washington-based international organizations, such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

Related areas of our firm's expertise include trusts and estate planning and representation of small businesses.
